Before you start
- Plain paper of one supported size and type, with flat undamaged sheets.
- The printer idle before removing its paper tray.
Use the lower front paper tray
This task uses the pull-out paper tray demonstrated on the HL-L2445DW. It is separate from the manual-feed slot. The source loads A4; use the markings and settings for your actual paper size.
Step 1:Pull out the tray and set the guides
Pull the tray completely out. Press the green adjustment levers and move the width guides and the rear length guide to the markings for your paper. The source demonstrates both adjustments; do not force a guide without releasing its lever.
Step 2:Load the stack below the maximum mark
Fan the sheets, straighten the edges and place the paper in the tray with the printing side down. Keep the stack below the maximum-paper mark. Bring the guides to the paper edges so the sheets stay flat and are not squeezed.
Step 3:Return the tray and support the output
Slide the tray fully back into the printer. Lift the output support flap so printed sheets remain on the output tray. These finishing details follow Brother’s paper-loading instructions.
Step 4:Match the size and paper type
If Check Paper asks for confirmation after the tray is returned, confirm the actual size and type. To change them through the LCD, open General Setup → Tray Setting. Select Paper Type → OK, choose your type and press OK. Select Paper Size → OK, choose the loaded size and press Go to save it. Match the print job’s paper selection as well.
On the next small print job, confirm a sheet feeds straight and reaches the output tray. Loading a stack alone does not prove that a jam or feed fault has been repaired.
Questions & troubleshooting
The stack bends between the guides.
Release the guide lever and ease the guide outward until it rests at the edge without bending the sheets.
The printer asks about the paper after I close the tray.
That is the Check Paper prompt when enabled. Confirm the size and type you actually loaded; A4 and Letter are different sizes.
Does this cover envelopes or labels?
No. This guide is for plain paper in the main tray. Brother provides separate instructions for special media and the manual-feed slot.
