A little preparation

Before you start

  • An idle Brother HL-L2445DW and a reason to restore its general settings.
  • A note of settings you want to restore afterwards, such as the loaded paper type.

Confirm that Machine Reset is the right action

The source selects Machine Reset on the LCD. Use this only when you intend to restore general settings, such as Paper Type. Use the separate network-reset or password guidance for those different tasks. A reset is not a repair for damaged hardware or a paper jam.

Step 1:Select Machine Reset by its exact name

Use the LCD’s up/down buttons to select Initial Setup and press OK. Select Reset → OK, then Machine Reset → OK. Read the final item carefully; Network Reset and Factory Reset have different consequences.

Step 2:Confirm the reset and restart

Choose the option labelled Reset when the LCD offers Reset or Exit. On the following reboot prompt, choose the confirmation to restart. The source uses the down button for these choices. Allow the restart to finish before continuing.

Step 3:Check the settings that matter to your next job

Once the printer is ready, check the paper size and type against the paper in the tray and restore your intended general settings. Recheck a small print job. Your saved network and security settings should remain, as documented by Brother; this procedure does not deliberately remove and rebuild them.

If your original issue remains, identify that specific error or failed connection rather than repeating progressively broader resets.

A little extra help

Questions & troubleshooting

Will this reset the administrator password?

No. Machine Reset retains security settings. A forgotten administrator password requires different guidance and a more consequential reset if recovery is necessary.

Why does the video say Wi-Fi will be erased?

The narration describes a full factory reset, but the selected LCD item is Machine Reset. The written instructions follow Brother’s definition of the selected action.

I only want to clear Wi-Fi settings.

Use the separate Network Reset procedure. Do not choose Machine Reset expecting it to erase the saved wireless connection.
