A little preparation

Before you start

  • The black or tri-colour cartridge you intend to refill, with its refill layout identified.
  • Refill ink compatible with that cartridge, separate clean syringes for black, magenta, cyan and yellow, and the original cartridge labels.
  • Gloves, paper towels and a protected work surface.

Step 1:Protect the surface and keep the labels

Put paper towels within reach and protect the area from spilled ink. Wear gloves. Start with the black cartridge, as Professor Printer does, before moving to the three separate colour chambers.

Peel the sticker back far enough to expose the refill holes. Keep it attached or nearby so you can put it back when you finish.

Step 2:Refill the black cartridge slowly

For the standard black cartridge in the video, draw about 1.5–2 ml of black ink into the syringe. Professor Printer uses approximately 2 ml. He advises a little more for an XL cartridge but does not give a single XL quantity.

Place the needle into the central refill hole and into the sponge. Keep it partway inside rather than pushing it against the bottom. Press the plunger slowly to let the sponge absorb the ink.

If ink bubbles at the hole, pause and dab it with a paper towel. The demonstration adjusts the needle slightly deeper before continuing; if you hit a solid wall, pull it back. Replace the black cartridge’s sticker after filling.

Step 3:Identify the three colour ports

Peel back the tri-colour cartridge’s label. With the exposed top held in the orientation shown in the video, the demonstrated layout is:

  • Magenta: the top central hole.
  • Yellow: the hole on the left.
  • Cyan: the upper hole on the right.

Keep each ink colour with its own clean syringe. Professor Printer specifically warns against mixing the colours. Identify the layout before filling; the directions here describe the cartridge in the recording.

Step 4:Fill magenta, cyan and yellow separately

The opening colour instructions specify up to 1 ml per colour for the standard cartridge. Draw approximately 1 ml of magenta, dab ink from the outside of the needle, then place it into the top central hole just far enough to enter the sponge. Inject slowly.

Repeat with cyan in the upper-right hole, then yellow in the left hole. If ink bubbles, pause and let it settle before continuing. Avoid pushing the needle all the way down.

Step 5:Replace the sticker and check the next step

Dab away ink around the top and put the colour cartridge’s sticker back where it was. The refill sequence is complete once the ink has been added and both labels are back in place.

After refilling, check how the cartridges print in your machine. If your printer reports a problem, Professor Printer directs viewers to guidance for that exact printer. This video does not give an ink-warning bypass or counter-reset sequence.

A little extra help

Questions & troubleshooting

What if ink bubbles out while I inject it?

Pause, dab the ink with a paper towel and let it settle. In the video, the needle is adjusted slightly within the sponge before the slow injection resumes. Do not force it against the bottom of the cartridge.

Can I use one syringe for every colour?

Keep clean syringes designated for each colour, as the source instructs. Mixing the inks can contaminate the colour you are trying to refill.

Does this reset the printer’s ink reading?

The video demonstrates adding ink, not resetting an ink reading or bypassing a printer warning. It sends viewers to model-specific help if a warning appears.
