A little preparation

Before you start

  • A supported Epson printer and a phone or tablet that can install the current official Epson Smart Panel app. Use Epson’s own download links or check the publisher in the app store.
  • For the existing-network route below, the printer should already be on Wi-Fi and the phone on the same network. Complete your model’s setup first if it is not connected.

Add the correct printer

  1. Install Epson Smart Panel from the official app-store listing linked by Epson. Open it and read the setup and privacy prompts.
  2. Allow local-network access and the discovery permissions requested for your phone’s setup, including Bluetooth when required. Prompt wording differs between iOS and Android.
  3. Let the app find the printer on the shared network and select the correct device. Check its name before starting a task.

To add another printer later, open the selected-printer area and use the plus control shown in the recording. Switch to the intended printer before reading its supply information or sending a job.

  1. Choose Print, then Photos or Documents according to the file you want to print.
  2. Select the file. In the recording, the presenter selects a camera-roll photo and chooses Add.
  3. Match the paper size and type to the paper actually loaded. Check layout, quality and copy count before choosing Print.
  4. Wait for the output, then check that the intended file, size and orientation were used.

The presenter reports a completed photo print. The source’s High quality choice is an example, not a requirement for every document or paper type.

Scan an original and save the file

  1. Load the original using your printer’s scanner instructions, then choose Scan in Smart Panel.
  2. Check document size, image type, resolution and the output format you need. Choose Start.
  3. Inspect the preview. Crop or rotate it if needed. To include another original, use the scan-another option before finishing and choose a format that supports the intended multipage file.
  4. Choose Next and Save, then select the destination offered by your phone. Open the saved file to check its pages and legibility.

The source demonstrates the app’s save workflow. It does not establish one default folder for all phones; remember the location you select. Printing a copy is a different task and does not automatically save a file.

Make a paper copy

Keep the original loaded on the printer and put suitable paper in its feeder. Choose Copy and the normal document option. Select colour or black-and-white, check paper size and copy count, then choose Start.

The app also displays other copy choices on the demonstrated interface. Use only the options supported by your selected printer. In particular, two-sided output and scanning both sides of an original are different capabilities. Check the completed sheet before making a larger batch.

Use Document Capture for a camera image

Document Capture uses the phone’s camera to photograph an original. Frame the whole page and review the captured area before saving or choosing a follow-on task offered by the app.

This does not operate the printer’s scanner. Choose Scan when you want to use the physical scanner; choose Document Capture when the source is in front of your phone camera.

Read status and maintenance information

Tap the selected printer at the top of the app to see the information available for that model. The recording also opens maintenance, firmware and Advanced settings; Advanced settings leads to the printer’s own web interface.

Treat supply and maintenance indicators according to that model’s instructions. Do not read a displayed value as an exact measurement of ink or a universal waste-pad replacement instruction. A maintenance menu is a place to choose a supported procedure, not a reason to run every cleaning option.

If an option is absent, check the selected model, its supported functions and the app version before assuming a fault. Use the exact model’s guide for network setup, paper loading or maintenance.

A little extra help

Questions & troubleshooting

The app cannot find my printer. What should I check first?

Check the exact model against Epson’s supported-model list, confirm that the printer and phone are on the same network for this route, and check the discovery permissions. If the printer has not joined Wi-Fi, follow its model-specific setup procedure.

Does Smart Panel support every Epson printer?

No. Epson maintains a specific supported-model list. If your printer is absent, use the app Epson recommends for that model rather than repeating Smart Panel setup or resetting the printer.

Where was my scan saved?

Use the destination you chose in the phone’s save dialog. The source does not establish one universal folder. Open the saved file before moving or discarding the original.
