A little preparation

Before you start

  • A Brother HL-L2445DW already connected to the network you want to inspect.
  • For the app method, a phone on that network with this printer registered in Brother Mobile Connect.

Read the address for the connection you use

A printer may have separate wired, wireless and Wi-Fi Direct addresses. For the home Wi-Fi connection in this recording, use WLAN (Wi-Fi), not the unused Wired LAN entry or a temporary direct-connection address.

The presenter identifies the machine as HL-L2445DW. The IP address visible on someone else’s printer is not an address to copy onto yours. This task reads the current configuration; it does not require a reset.

Step 1:Use the printer’s LCD menu

  • Use the plus and minus buttons to select Network, then press OK.
  • Select WLAN (Wi-Fi), press OK, then select TCP/IP and press OK.
  • Select IP Address, press OK, and read the displayed value. Note it exactly, then use Back to leave without editing the digits.

If you actually use a wired connection, its address is under Wired LAN → TCP/IP → IP Address. The source’s wired entry has no usable connection because that unit is using Wi-Fi.

Step 2:Or read it in Brother Mobile Connect

Open Brother Mobile Connect on the home network and select your registered HL-L2445DW. The recording shows the address on the printer entry and again in Machine Information. Wait for the app to reach the printer rather than relying on an old, unavailable entry.

Step 3:Check that you recorded the current address

Compare the app’s address with the active connection’s LCD value if both are available. A saved app entry can be older than the current network configuration. If the printer is not connected, complete Wi-Fi setup first instead of assigning a guessed address.

A little extra help

Questions & troubleshooting

Wired LAN does not show the address I expected.

Use WLAN (Wi-Fi) if the printer is connected wirelessly. Each interface has its own settings; the recording first opens the unused wired branch before switching to WLAN.

Can I change the digits to match the video?

No. Those digits belong to another network. Use Back to leave the address screen without saving changes.

Does a number starting with 192 prove everything works?

No. Record the current address and check that your device reaches this printer on the intended network. The prefix alone is not proof that a print job will complete.
